EURECIA explored the role of the ERC within the European Research Area (ERA) and the changing European research funding landscape.
This information will provide useful inputs for the ERC, to assist it in being a reflexive organisation and to help its strategic goal-setting processes.
EURECIA has undertaken a qualitative study to understand the ERC both within ERA and as an evolving institution influencing and being influenced by other European research funding organisations and schemes. This work used multiple sources, such as documents, studies, previous research, interviews (with key stakeholders in the ERC, EU Commission services, and other European funding organisations) and interviews with key stakeholders within the European research communities (e.g. active spokespersons representing European science associations).
Dr Terttu Luukkonen led this work and coordinated closely with EURECIA’s study of national funding bodies, such as by including questions on the perceived role of the ERC within its interview schedule.
