Methodology & Conceptualisation

EURECIA’ s approach is novel so we had a dedicated work package to elaborate a methodology and to test and finalise research instruments.

This work package was also our vehicle for further developing: our conceptual and methodological issues associated with tracing, measuring and attributing impact; our conceptual and methodological issues associated with assessing impact; and our conceptual and methodological issues related to science dynamics (i.e. for researchers and epistemic communities, research spaces, the governance of science, and science organisation).

Our methodology used a variety of research methods: surveys, interviews, case studies, documentary analysis and secondary analysis of data. Attribute and relational data about researchers with and without ERC grants was also collected, analysed and interpreted via an online survey. Our methods, our research instruments, our analysis and the structure of our final outputs was also co-developed within this work package.

Dr Maria Nedeva and Dr Jochen Glaser led this methodology and conceptualisation work, with feedback and inputs from the rest of the EURECIA team.
